Do NOT join if you are BME. Surrey Police is a force stuck in the 70s level of discrimination. As an Asian male, I was looked at and treated unfairly by colleagues. The ''professional" standards department did nothing either despite what I recall was 4 independent accounts from 4 different BME officers.A great friend who was one of the few amazing coppers killed himself as reported on the news and guess what? Despite asking for help in trying to pay respects, the HR team did not even respond to give any sympathies. Not even a " sorry we cannot help due to reason X " etc.Officers end up killing themselves before any actual intervention is done to support them properly. Officers get bullied, including their loved ones, by corrupted pigs committing the worst of crimes here. Please, keep yourself safe from joining if you have a BME background OR have a 'unique personality' as you WILL get picked on otherwise.
Been hear too many times unfortunately good if you work hear bad if you have been arrested but either way you get treated well
In general, I've had a very poor experience with Surrey police. I've expressed my dissatisfaction to the IPCC and the sergeants at surrey police in relation to being a victim of police brutality and wrongly being given a dispersal order but unfortunately after having raised this concern via 101 for the 5th time I'm still not satisfied with the final outcome. As a result I've had to speak to citizens advice because I can't afford to pay out for a solicitor.
Your safety is their main concern. However small your problem is they always have time for you. I can't thank them enough for the number of times they help people out who are victims of hate crime.
