Firstly Id like to say I didnt purchase anything from PJ Hifi. My review is solely down to professional interaction with potential customers (myself). The gentleman I had the miss fortune to deal with was rude, patronizing and arrogant. I phoned PJ Hifi before visiting to see if they could help with my miss behaving Rega record deck. Rega offer a lifetime warranty with their decks and their website advises that when you have a problem you should contact your local dealer, thats PJ. On the phone they were happy to help advising me to bring it in and they would see what they could do. Unfortunately the person I ended up dealing with did not have the same attitude. I never expected them to repair the deck just perhaps to confirm it was indeed not behaving as it should and if they were feeling generous liaise with Rega as one of their dealers. Instead I was told Id clearly set it up wrong, rude. They told me they would charge 75 for dealing with Rega. Which I thought was a bit much for a simple phone call. Instead I asked for Regas number (its not on their website) and dealt with them direct. As mentioned in previous reviews. If your buying from them Im sure they are lovely but thats where customer service ends. This shop is arrogant beyond belief. I couldnt get out quick enough and even then hed pull me back for more moaning about my problem, deck setting up capabilities and how it was nothing to do with him ( he was right I just thought they might help me in the right direction ). If I was in his shoes Id have been happy to help. An opportunity to gain a potential customer from very little effort. Instead he cracked on eating his banana and reading the Daily Mail whilst patronizing me and looking down his snooty nose. Bad work PJ Hifi, an attitude change would go a long way.
Friendly, helpful staff turned a simple communication error into a sour experience. I would neither recommend nor use this store again.. such a shame really. It's so annoying when you find a store that suffers from a Jekyll & Hyde complex & PJ Hi-Fi in Guilford is unfortunately, one of those stores. Happy & helpful when taking the cash, not quite the case when returning it.I'd struggled to source some oddball 3mm banana plugs for my beloved Cyrus IIIi amp. I knew Cyrus stocked them but they were pricey and they weren't answering their phones. I called PJ Hi-fi and was delighted when they said they had some. I specifically asked if they were the "metal" ones, not the cheap plastic ones and was informed confidently that they were. The chap on the phone told me his colleague would call me back as he would process the payment and take delivery details. The call never came so I rang back. Richard took my details and advised the price, which was very close the cost of the Cyrus plugs! but I wanted to get these ordered so I proceeded. When they eventually arrived, I excitedly opened the parcel only to find that these were the cheaper plastic version. Like most Hi-fi enthusiasts.. I'm a bit fussy about my gear. I'd custom made my cables and only wanted metal components. The other end had lovely Nakamichi terminals so the other end deserved the same. I was quite disappointed but thought, oh well, these things happen.I called the store and explained the situation. Again, I was told that only Richard would be able to deal with this (not sure what the other chap(s) do?) And he was out but would call me back. Again, I waited.. I ended up calling 4 times before I eventually got hold of him (no call from Richard).I again explained that I had specifically asked for metal & not plastic plugs. I understand that it was a communication breakdown at their end and would they accept a return and refund including postage. Richard confirmed they would. I sent them back... It turned out that they would not cover my return postage SO as a result of their error I wasted my time, numerous calls and it cost me 5 for the pleasure. When I asked for full compensation, after all it was not my fault they'd got the order wrong, Richard was quite abrupt in saying "it's not something I'm prepared to do".. I guess in this store, the store comes first and they pass on the blame... and the costs. Thank goodness it wasn't 1000's of Hi-fi equipment that they had messed up the order on.Such a shame.
Lovely independent shop. Cyrus dealer
What amazing service. My Quad speaker went in on a Tuesday afternoon and here I am on Friday afternoon listening to my newly repaired speaker. Less than 60 including parking so very reasonable priced too. They are, I think, one of a dying breed
I wasnt aware they stocked Rega and saw the product I wanted in the window so popped in. Andy, the manager, was an absolute wealth of knowledge and happy to share his knowledge and experience with me, even referring to him and his team as audio geeks/nerds. It was clear I wasnt going to buy anything that visit, but he was extremely generous in sharing his time and clearly enthusiastic about Hi-Fi . I will definitely be back to pick their brains to ensure I buy the right kit for me.
